Eleven Beautiful Bike Trails In Ohio Everyone Will Love
As the weather warms up it’s time to play, so you’re probably wanting to get some fresh air. Taking a short bike ride down a paved, gorgeous path is the perfect way to embrace a beautiful day. Fortunately, Ohio has plenty of great trails to explore on a bicycle. Here are 11 easy and beautiful bike trails in Ohio you’ll want to take.
1. Rocky River Reservation Trails (Cleveland Metroparks)
The All Purpose Trail at Rocky River Reservation features wonderful scenic views of the Rocky River and a total of 13.6 miles for cycling, walking, skating, etc. Along this trail you’ll also encounter the 1.3-mile Rockcliff Springs Fitness Trail.
Part of the Buckeye Trail System, this 8.3-mile trail follows remains of the Miami and Erie Canal. Bikes are allowed on this trail. The Bend View Overlook to Providence Trailhead section of the trail is especially beautiful.
3. East Cohasset Hike/Bike Trail (Mill Creek Park)
Youngstown’s metro park features some beautiful scenery and landmarks. The 1.5-mile asphalt surface East Cohasset Hike/Bike Trail features a scenic route above Lake Cohasset. It’s perfect for a leisurely day hike or bike ride.
In Franklin County, this 15-mile long bike path stretches from downtown Columbus to Worthington. This particular trail is good for both beginners and advanced bikers. The path goes along the Olentangy River and through the Park of Roses in Clintonville.
This beautiful bike path stretches for approximately 20 miles from Athens to Nelsonville along the Hocking River. It passes through Hocking College and Ohio University’s campus, as well as Wayne National Forest.
This stunning trail is ideal for cyclists that desire a smooth ride with beautiful scenery. The path is 63 miles long with a 12 ft. wide surface of asphalt. You will also cross dirt terrain and bridges along the way. Most of this trail is not shady, so be sure to wear sunscreen.
7. Ohio and Erie Canal Towpath Trail (New Philadelphia)
Spanning south to north, from Tuscawaras County to Cuyahoga County and Lake Erie, for the hearty rider this 101-mile long bike trail follows the path of the Ohio & Erie Canal built in the 1800s. Each section is gorgeous, so no matter what stretch you cycle on, you’ll take in some great views along the way.
Also known as the Loveland Bike Trail or the Rails to Trails Bike Path, this beautiful bike path stretches from Clark County all the way to Milford in Warren County; it is approximately 78 miles long. It’s one of the most beautiful trails in the state.
Linking the cities of Washington Courthouse, Frankfort and Chillicothe together, this 35-mile bike path stretches through Fayette, Ross and Highland County. Along the way, the trail features a former railroad corridor, rural scenery, various earthworks and burial mounds and the Hopewell Culture National Historic Park.
10. The Blackhand Gorge Trail (Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve)
The Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve features a 4-mile-long sandstone formation that the Licking River flows through. Quite incredible to see! The trail is the only paved bike path in the Ohio nature preserve system. Blackhand Gorge State Nature Preserve is located at 2200 Gratiot Rd. SE, Heath, OH 43056.
For more of a touring trip, this is one of the ultimate bike paths to travel. Spanning from Cleveland to Cincinnati, this long trail stretches for a total of 262 miles.
